As media planners and buyers, we rely upon partnerships with media vendors, graphic designers, web developers, videographers, and other talent who contribute to the fulfillment of our clients' marketing goals. It takes a team-based approach to see our strategy come to fruition in the form of a thoughtful, professionally-executed advertising campaign. And so, from time to time, we like to profile our partners. Today, we're pleased to introduce you to Mariah Morgan of Stout Heart.
Tell us a bit about Stout Heart. What solutions do you provide to your clients?
Stout Heart is a full-service marketing agency based in Portsmouth, NH. We serve a variety of clients in industries across the board, from investment consulting to education to lifestyle-based businesses. We do a lot of branding and website development for business that are transitioning out of their startup phase and beginning to evaluate what they need to do to continue to mature and grow.
How did you get into this line of work?
I’ve always been fascinated by the intersection of art, psychology, and business. I went to college for advertising and quickly headed out to San Francisco to start my career in the account service department of some great agencies afterward. I always knew that I wanted to run a business and a few years ago I reached the point where I felt it was time to see if I could steer my own ship. Stout Heart is the result of that need and what a lovely adventure it has been.
What inspires you about what you do?
I am inspired every day by our clients and the work that they do. It can be rare, in marketing, that you have the opportunity to feel like you’re putting good out into the universe. Stout Heart makes a point of working with mission-driven businesses and brands that are aligned with our own values. As a result, we work with a lot of amazing people who are creating positivity in today’s world. We are so lucky to be a part of their everyday operation.
Help us get to know you a bit better. How do you spend your time outside of work? Have you had any unique life experiences that our readers might find interesting or unexpected that you’d be willing to share with us?
I spent every summer of my childhood at a cabin in the woods with no electricity. Given that I sit in front of a computer most days, few would suspect the impact that this continues to have on my life. It taught me to listen carefully (to nature, to myself, to other people). It taught me to make my own entertainment. It made for the strongest of family bonds. And it taught me the importance of silence. To this day, I am happiest outside, as far away from technology as is possible.
How would you describe your partnership with Richardson Media Group?
Stout Heart has a very strict “no jerks allowed” policy. We keep this in mind when we choose our coworkers, when we vet clients, and when we meet with potential partners. It is important to us because we have found that, without fail, the best work is a result of teamwork in its truest form and, frankly, jerks tend to stand in the way. We knew when we met the Richardson Media Group team that we were kindred spirits, not just because they have a great resume, but because they are good people who keep us laughing and thinking, simultaneously.
In addition to her role as owner and media director here at RMG, Anne authors the majority of our blog posts. Favorite topics include the entrepreneurial journey, media planning and buying, and forming productive agency partnerships.
